MOGOP’s Smith: Email communications expose ACORN-Carnahan “team effort.”

JEFFERSON CITY—Speaking at the University of Missouri yesterday, Robin Carnahan responded to the Missouri Republican Party’s ACORN-Carnahan web video by asserting that she “doesn’t have any ties to ACORN.”  The claim, caught on tape, is contradicted by emails exposing her office’s friendly relationship with the embattled liberal organization.  This incriminating evidence has been viewed by more than 18,000 Missourians at www.acorncarnahan.com.

“Robin Carnahan’s outlandish claim that she has no ties to the liberal group flies in the face of the more than 1,400 pages of communication exposing her cozy relationship with ACORN,” said Lloyd Smith, Executive Director of the Missouri Republican Party.  “The documents, obtained by the Missouri Republican Party, tell the real story about what ACORN calls a ‘great team effort,’ detailing meetings in her office, events, research requests, and more.  Despite Carnahan’s attempts to re-write history, the evidence is as incriminating as it is clear: Robin Carnahan and ACORN are too close for comfort.”

Further contradicting her claims in the video, Carnahan’s spokesperson admits that she has never criticized ACORN by name (Post-Dispatch, 10/13/2009)—even as ACORN submitted thousands of false voter registration forms and more than a dozen ACORN workers pleaded guilty in Missouri alone.

The evidence of Carnahan true relationship with ACORN speaks for itself:

  • Michael Slater (ACORN/Project Vote Executive Director) to Ron Berry (Secretary of State’s Political Director), 3/15/2007: “We very much appreciate having the ability to share information with y’all.” (view)
  • Michael Slater to Mindy Mazur (SOS Chief of Staff) and Ron Berry, 3/21/2007: “I have a very quick research question… I presume Republicans beat the drum of voter fraud as a rationale for the photo ID law, can you steer me to a source to find a quote providing an example of that?”

Mindy Mazur responds to Michael Slater, 3/21/2007: “There’s one from last year on ‘perception’… ill (sic) see if I can find it.”

Mindy Mazur responds to Michael Slater, 3/21/2007: “I have a few others too… will send shortly.” (view all)

  • Jeff Ordower (Head organizer for ACORN) to Ron Berry, 10/2/2008: “Again, we’ll do an event whenever Robin can make it to St. Louis, though book closing date is best.” (view)

  • Jeff Ordower to Carnahan staff and others after the defeat of the photo id legislation in the Missouri General Assembly, 5/17/2008: “This was a great team effort.  Thanks everyone for your help.” (view)
