Total Eclipse of the Past

Jefferson City - Jay Nixon received a D-minus from the NRA for his support of restricting the gun rights of police officers, for opposing concealed weapons legislation and his support of the Clinton era’s anti-Second Amendment agenda. Yet Nixon was the first to release a statement today in response to the Supreme Court’s ruling touting his newfound “support” for gun rights and applauding the court’s decision. Thanks to the recent documents released through a Sunshine Law request, we now know that Jay Nixon makes decisions to support the protection of Missouri values by taking a head count.
“Jay Nixon was quick to applaud today’s the Supreme Court ruling on guns and point out that he joined 31 other attorneys general to file a brief with the court supporting individuals’ gun rights. But when it came to joining 10 attorneys general in requesting a stay on the California Supreme Court ruling on same-sex marriage, Nixon stuck his finger in the wind in order to gauge national support,” said Tina Hervey, communications director of the Missouri Republican Party. “Missourians should be appalled that Nixon has created a litmus test to decide which of Missouri’s values he will defend. Missourians now know that in order to have their values defended by Nixon, it will require at least 10 attorneys general before he acts. So it shouldn’t have surprised anyone that with 31 attorneys general already signing that Nixon was willing to support Missourians 2 nd Amendment rights even though that is diametrically opposed to his previous 2 nd Amendment stances.”
Missourians want their governor to be a principled leader with a vision to move Missouri forward, not someone who will make decisions based on the direction the wind is blowing. Over his career and now with these two decisions, Nixon has shown Missourians that he is not principled nor does he have a vision for the future.
