Nothing New or Original in Today’s Announcement

Jefferson City - Today, Jay Nixon surfaced from his bunker to announce that he has nothing more to offer Missourians but empty rhetoric and a record of failure.

“With a 22 year record of wasting Missouri taxpayer dollars, it is laughable to hear Nixon announce his “new” performance review commission. This announcement proves that not only does Nixon not have a vision for moving Missouri forward but he lacks original ideas on how to improve the lives of Missourians,” said Tina Hervey, communications director of the Missouri Republican Party. “Over the course of his time as Attorney General, he has continuously been criticized by fellow Democrats Susan Montee and Claire McCaskill for the waste, lack of oversight and misuse of Missouri taxpayer dollars by him and his office. How can Missourians believe that if elected governor that Nixon will look for and root out inefficiencies in state government, if he cannot manage his own office?”

During his tenure as Attorney General, Jay Nixon has been sharply criticized on numerous occasions by both the media and fellow Democrats for the repeated and rampant waste in his office. From the illegal use of a taxpayer funded car for campaign purposes to the ballooning growth of his office budget and staff salaries to his persistent desire to return to the old, broken Medicaid system wrought with waste and abuse, not only can today’s announcement not be taken seriously, Missouri Democrats must be scratching their heads wondering why Jay Nixon is copying Governor Blunt.
