McCaskill/Nixon Hypocrisy Sad But Not Surprising
May 19th, 2008
JEFFERSON CITY - This past Saturday night, in another moment of dishonesty and hypocrisy Claire McCaskill and Jay Nixon criticized newly passed campaign finance laws that will inject transparency into our system. The comments made by Claire McCaskill and Jay Nixon are nothing more than pathetic, politically-motivated words designed to hide the fact that they have long abuseed the old campaign finance system they don’t want changed.
“It is highly hypocritical for Sen. McCaskill who manipulated federal campaign finance laws so special interests could pay off her $1.6 million state campaign debt to say that supporters of the new legislation plan “to sell government to the highest bidder”. As the only Senator in Washington, DC who was allowed for a time to accept unlimited contributions, Sen. McCaskill’s outrage is laughable,” said Tina Hervey, communications director for the Missouri Republican Party. “ The St. Louis Post-Dispatch editorial pages said it best; McCaskill’s actions are ‘Tacky. Very tacky’..”
Jay Nixon is no better. He was accepting over-the-limit contributions from Chuck Hatfield at the same time he was conspiring with him to tank the defense of a lawsuit that would have kept in place the previous reforms. “Jay Nixon, as he so often does, has preached one thing and practiced another when it comes to his views of unlimited campaign contributions. Jay Nixon and Claire McCaskill cannot be trusted because they are not being honest with Missourians.”
