Desperate Kay Barnes, National Democrats Go Negative Early

JEFFERSON CITY - Kay Barnes and her supporters at the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee are set to release a torrent of negative campaign ads against Congressman Sam Graves almost seventeen months before Election Day.

Despite all her posturing about negative campaign tactics during last spring’s mayoral races, it seems Barnes has no problem accepting early negative help from the DCCC, which has announced it will attack fourteen Congressmen, including Graves, with emails, robocalls and radio ads.  In two news conferences during the mayor’s race, Barnes denounced robocalls, even enlisting the support of Jay Nixon.

“Kay Barnes is a hypocrite when it comes to campaign tactics,” said Paul Sloca, spokesman for the Missouri Republican Party.  “For her to accept negative campaign support this early, and in this fashion, goes against everything she has said previously.  Her record is one of broken promises, and this decision fits right in.”

Barnes and the DCCC are using the Fourth of July week as a backdrop to attack Graves on his support of our military and veterans.  While Graves has consistently voted to support active military personnel and veterans programs, Barnes has already voiced anti-military sentiments, denouncing our mission and tactics in Iraq.
