Job Growth Continues Under Republicans

Another 4,100 jobs were created in Missouri in May as part of an ongoing employment trend fostered by Republicans, in which 94,000 net new jobs have been created since January, 2005. Several industry groups added jobs in May. Construction employment was up by 1,000 jobs while educational and health services, accommodation and food services, and local government each added 1,300 jobs. Information, financial activities and other private services also added jobs. The state’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate was 4.6 percent in May which is nearly identical to the nation’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate of 4.5 percent. “I commend Missouri’s working families and job creators for another successful month of strong job growth," Governor Matt Blunt said in a statement. "My administration remains firmly committed to continuing the pro-job, pro-growth initiatives that have helped Missourians create nearly 100,000 new jobs over the last two and-a-half years."
