Nixon Accepts More Backdoor Cash from Democrat Committees
April 16th, 2007
JEFFERSON CITY - Already infamous for accepting more than $19,000 in laundered political contributions from Ameren while he was investigating the utility, campaign finance reports released today show that Democrat committees continued to funnel tens of thousands of dollars in illegal coordinated contributions into Nixon’s struggling campaign for governor prior to the January 1 deadline prohibiting such contributions.
In one of the most egregious examples of illegal coordinated campaign contributions flowing to Nixon, the 132d Legislative District Democratic Committee claims that it received a $6,000 contribution from Nixon on December 22, 2006, while the St. Louis Democratic Central Committee reports that it made the $6,000 contribution to 132nd Committee just two days before. No doubt the 132nd committee received a call telling them to send money to Nixon with a promise of reimbursement.
“In an act of supreme political arrogance that began with unsavory and illegal contributions from Ameren, Jay Nixon has continued to use Democrat political committees to illegally coordinate campaign contributions that were funneled to his political campaign,†said Paul Sloca, communications director for the Missouri Republican Party. “Just as the clock was running out on such schemes thanks to Republican-backed campaign finance reform, Nixon’s abuses of our campaign finance laws became bolder, more rampant and obsessive. It is incredibly disturbing that Nixon, the so-called chief law enforcement officer of the state, would spit in the face of the law as publicly and abruptly as this.â€
Other examples of contributions funneled to Nixon include but are not limited to:
- A $5,000 contribution from the 2nd Congressional District Democrats on December 28 to the Democratic Central Committee of Lincoln County turned into a $5,800 contribution from the county committee to Nixon the very next day.
- A $6,000 contribution from the St. Louis County Democratic Central Committee on December 22 to the 73rd District Democratic Legislative Committee turned into a $6,000 campaign contribution from the legislative committee to Nixon the very same day.
- A $6,000 contribution from the St. Louis Democratic Central Committee to the Randolph County Central Committee on December 29 was purposely turned into a $5,800 contribution from the county committee to Nixon the very same day.
- A $6,000 contribution from the St. Louis County Committee Central Democratic Committee was received by the 150th Legislative Committee on December 28 which became a $5,900 contribution from the legislative committee to Nixon the very same day.
- A $5,000 contribution from the St. Louis County Democratic Central Committee to the 65th Legislative Committee on December 26 became a $4,900 contribution from the legislative committee to Nixon the very next day.
