Democrat Election Day Wrecking Crew Plants Legal Time Bomb in Court

JEFFERSON CITY - To bolster themselves against the risk of future court losses on voter identification, Democrat Party bosses are seeking an order barring any issuance of free voter identification to citizens, at counters or from mobile vans.

The Missouri Republican Party said today that new court motion are intended to create the lowest possible number of issued ID s, and the atmosphere of “crisis” in the Supreme Court.

“The political game here is to make it as hard as possible for the program to work this year, no matter what the courts hold,” said Paul Sloca, communications director for the Missouri Republican Party. “The Democrat bosses will tell the Supreme Court that so few ID cards have been issued and the hour is so late that voter ID must be cancelled for 2006, regardless of any decision. This motion is a way to create the largest possible shortage of ID cards.”

In the new attack on trustworthy elections, Robin Carnahan and other party bosses argue in trial court to prevent Missouri voters from obtaining free non-driver licenses.

In response to an ACLU funded-lawsuit filed by Democrats, a Cole County judge recently put on hold efforts to provide free voter identification to Missourians. In a shameful political display, Carnahan and Democrat Party bosses have asked the court to ensure that the state Revenue Department is unable to issue free voter IDs while the court decision is appealed.

The effort to thwart free voter identification distribution includes no longer issuing any free ID cards, as well as canceling previously scheduled visits of mobile units that issue the IDs to nursing homes and senior citizen centers. The Missouri Supreme Court is scheduled to hear an appeal of the case on October 4. Copies of the Carnahan and Democrat documents are available for viewing at http://www.mogop.org/media/voterid.pdf

“It is preposterous and unconscionable that that the Robin Carnahan and the Democrat Party would try and deny Missourians including those in nursing homes and senior centers the ability to receive free voter identification while this case is on appeal,” Sloca said. “Democrats will go to any lengths to undermine important voter integrity measures and no doubt argue when the law is reinstated that there isn’t sufficient time or opportunity for those who want one to obtain a free ID. Carnahan has argued publicly that there is not sufficient time for Missourians to obtain free IDs, yet in court documents she’s arguing to shut down access to them – her motives are clear and her intentions repugnant.”
