A Missouri Nightmare: Claire McCaskill and Her Liberal Friends Raising Taxes

JEFFERSON CITY - In a nightmare scenario for Missourians, a Democrat takeover of the U.S. House and Senate, including a Claire McCaskill victory, would mean higher taxes for our people.

With the likes of Hillary Clinton, Teddy Kennedy and McCaskill in the Senate, Missourians would be represented by liberals that want to turn back the clock on the tax relief that is growing our economy.

McCaskill has opposed every tax relief package that passed the Congress over the last five years. Those tax cuts included marriage penalty relief, death tax relief, an increase in the child tax credit and small business tax relief.

“A Democrat Senate that includes Claire McCaskill is a nightmare for Missourians because of a liberal agenda that would strike at the heart of our state’s common sense, conservative values,” said Paul Sloca, communications director for the Missouri Republican Party. “Northeast liberals like Hillary Clinton and Teddy Kennedy would rule over the Senate and exert influence over Claire McCaskill at the expense of hard-working Missourians. Claire McCaskill in the Senate would mean higher taxes for Missourians.”

Congressional Quarterly reported that Rep. Charles B. Rangel (D-N.Y.), who would likely become Ways and Means Committee chairman if Democrats recapture the House, vowed to put the tax cuts on the chopping block. Like Rangel, Claire McCaskill opposed those tax cuts.

In contrast, Sen. Jim Talent believes Missourians should be allowed to keep more of their hard-earned money. He has repeatedly voted for tax relief for all Missourians and he is working to make those tax cuts permanent.

“There is a clear choice between Jim Talent’s support for tax relief and Claire McCaskill’s support for higher taxes,” Sloca said.
