McCaskill to Embrace Reid’s ‘Weak on Terror’ Approach During KC Visit
August 24th, 2006
JEFFERSON CITY - Just weeks after terrorist surveillance proved vital to uncovering a plot to kill Americans aboard international flights, Claire McCaskill will embrace Sen. Harry Reid’s weak on terror approach during a visit by the liberal Nevada lawmaker to Kansas City today.
While McCaskill has been a longtime opponent of the U.S. government’s terrorist surveillance program, she recently claimed to support “worldwide intelligence.” Her contradictory message seems less so given the visit by Reid who vehemently opposes the country’s terrorist surveillance program and the Patriot Act, both of which are helping stop those who would do America harm.
“If Harry Reid and Claire McCaskill had their way and did away with the Patriot Act and ended the Terrorist Surveillance Program, authorities would be less able to uncover terror plots like the one involving international flights,” said Paul Sloca, communications director for the Missouri Republican Party. “Terrorist surveillance was crucial to stopping the terrorist plot in London, yet Claire McCaskill insists that a similar program used by U.S. intelligence officials ‘broke the law.’”
Reid’s visit to Kansas City offers Missourians another opportunity to find out who the real Claire McCaskill is. To date, McCaskill has failed to come clean about where she stands on a recent federal court ruling against the Terrorist Surveillance Program. Sen. Jim Talent said the ruling, if allowed to stand, “would harm the security of the United States and the American people.”
“Claire McCaskill and her ally Harry Reid want to weaken our intelligence capabilities,” Sloca said. “While Senator Talent is working to keep Americans safe by supporting the terrorist surveillance program and the Patriot Act, Claire McCaskill is embracing the liberal agenda of Harry Reid against terrorist surveillance and the Patriot Act.”
