Democrat Allies at Extremist ACLU Continue Legal Attacks on Missourians
July 19th, 2006
JEFFERSON CITY – Missouri Democrats’ extremist allies at the ACLU not only are challenging free and fair elections in the Show Me State but are now asking taxpayers to pay for their legal bills in a case allowing prison abortions.
These legal attacks against Missourians come from the same radical group with a history of suing taxpayers and local governments to strike down popular and traditional holiday displays, suing local school districts to end the practice of graduation prayers and suing to require governmental bodies to recognize same-sex marriages.
The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports today that the ACLU wants Missouri taxpayers to pay its legal bills in a case in which the group challenged the state’s refusal to pay the costs associated with transporting female prisoners seeking abortions. Gov. Matt Blunt has asked Jay Nixon to appeal a court decision to allow the abortions. This will be yet another test of whether Nixon will choose his political interests over the interests of most Missourians which is his usual course.
The ACLU’s liberal interference in Missouri’s affairs was on display earlier this week when Democrat St. Louis Mayor Francis Slay and Jackson County Executive Katheryn Shields outsourced a legal challenge to the state’s voter identification law to the ACLU. The law, which is opposed by Democrat Party bosses, strengthens voter harassment and intimidation protections and phases in a common sense photo identification requirement.
“The ACLU and its allies among Missouri Democrat Party leadership are engaged in a vicious legal assault against the voters and taxpayers of our state that strike at the very heart of our Democracy and the rights of the unborn,” said Paul Sloca, communications director for the Missouri Republican Party. “These legal attacks are nothing more than unchecked extremist aggression sponsored by Missouri Democrat Party bosses and carried out by their radical henchmen at the ACLU.”
