McCaskill’s Job Performance Continues to Plummet, Taxpayers Cheated

JEFFERSON CITY – Claire McCaskill’s failure to do the job Missouri taxpayers pay her for continues as the number of audits she completed through May was embarrassingly lower than her totals in recent years.

An updated Missouri Republican Party analysis shows that McCaskill, who is running for U.S. Senate, has produced a pathetic 33 audits through May, which is just seven more than she released at the same point in her rookie year of 1999. McCaskill’s workload slide began in 2005 when she released just 33 audits through May of that year compared to her high of 46 audits through May 2003, which marked the last time she was not seeking a higher office.

“It is a disgrace that Claire McCaskill’s political aspirations are more important than the job Missourians are paying her for but that’s not entirely surprising for someone who bragged to The New Yorker magazine about her wealth and then exclaimed ‘oh damn, I didn’t want you to know I was a rich lady’,” said Paul Sloca, communications director for the Missouri Republican Party. “This disturbing downward trend is a slap in the face to those hard-working taxpayers who expect public officials to do their jobs.”

McCaskill’s lack of productivity flies in the face of what she told the Springfield News-Leader on November 3, 2004, after her loss to Gov. Matt Blunt: “I’ll continue to be the best darn state auditor this state has ever had." But McCaskill’s shameful boasts began long before that:

The Associated Press, February 19, 2004: Noting her office has performed more than 600 audits …”

St. Louis Post-Dispatch, July 29, 2004: As state auditor, I have done more than 600 audits …”

October, 2004 ad featuring McCaskill: ANNOUNCER: “Over 700 audits …”

Kansas City Star, October 27, 2004: “She cites more than 700 audits …”

Post-Dispatch, October 28, 2004: “She said the 700 audits her office has issued is a state record …

Post-Dispatch, October 28, 2004: “As state auditor, I have done more than 600 audits of state agencies …”
