Feingold Hearings Give McCaskill Chance to Come Clean on Censure

JEFFERSON CITY – Missourians already know that Claire McCaskill opposes monitoring terrorists who threaten our country but Senate hearings this week focusing on U.S. Sen. Russ Feingold?s Resolution to censure the president make it necessary that she finally take a stand and give her position on the censure.

With the Feingold Resolution scheduled to be heard Friday by the Senate Judiciary Committee in Washington, D.C., McCaskill has this week to tell Missourians if the president’s commitment to protecting American lives by monitoring terrorist phone calls is basis for a presidential censure.

"Claire McCaskill and Russ Feingold have made it clear that they stand against the president when it comes to using terrorist surveillance to protect Americans," said Paul Sloca, communications director for the Missouri Republican Party. "But Missourians deserve to know if McCaskill stands with Feingold as he attempts to criminalize the President’s work to protect America from terrorist attacks."

Even as some D.C. Democrats distanced themselves from Feingold’s political antics, McCaskill has once again failed to take a position on an important national issue. And when she does take a position, she inexplicably opposes tough anti-methamphetamine legislation, the comprehensive Energy bill and greater access to affordable prescription drugs for the elderly.

"Claire McCaskill’s attempt to avoid tough questions about federal issues is again on display for Missourians ," Sloca said. "It is clear that Claire McCaskill is out of touch with Missouri values and her continued silence on censure is another example of that."
