McCaskill Fails To Mention Opposition to Ethanol During Bootheel Stop
February 22nd, 2006
JEFFERSON CITY–Claire McCaskill conveniently failed to mention her opposition to ethanol during a visit to Cape Girardeau today even though the alternative fuel would provide an economic boost to Missouri farmers and reduce the state’s dependence on foreign oil.
“It’s unfortunate that Claire McCaskill would mislead southeast Missourians about her opposition to something that would provide significant economic benefits to the region’s farmers and the economy as a whole,’’ said Paul Sloca, communications director for the Missouri Republican Party. “Claire McCaskill is not being honest with the people of Missouri. Rather, she is trying to hide a shameful record when it comes to the needs of hard-working Missourians.’’
McCaskill’s opposition to ethanol as an alternative directly contrasts with Gov. Matt Blunt’s commitment to legislation making its way through the Legislature requiring that fuel sold in Missouri contain 10 percent ethanol. Blunt was in Cape Girardeau today to honestly discuss one of his top legislative priorities for the state.
“Gov. Blunt understands that ethanol not only helps Missouri family farmers by providing a ready market for their product but also addresses our state’s future energy needs,” Sloca said. “While Claire McCaskill is running from her record on ethanol, Gov. Blunt is standing behind his support of the 10 percent ethanol requirement.”
