Left-Wing Extremists Pony Up Big For McCaskill’s Senate Fundraising
October 21st, 2005
After sinking $1.6 million of her family’s fortune into a failed campaign for Governor, Senate candidate Claire McCaskill has decided to solicit the national party’s left fringe as a principal underwriter for her new campaign. According to data from McCaskill’s first FEC report, more than $115,000– about $1 out of every $6 collected—is from national liberal money sources controlled by three polarizing figures:
-
Billionaire George Soros, who committed more than $25 million of his personal fortune to the costly failure of trying to defeat the President in 20041, including “soft money” to hire convicted felons to canvass door-to-door in Missouri for new voter registrations2 for the Soros-funded group ACT. Soros is so far left that he supports an “International Criminal Court” with powers to arrest and prosecute American service members.3 Soros already has given McCaskill $4,200.
- Senator Charles Schumer of New York, the Senate Judiciary Committee Democrat whose cause is keeping conservative judicial nominees off the federal bench.4 Schumer’s leadership PAC, IMPACT, gave McCaskill $10,000. The Schumer-controlled Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee gave $37,300.
- Senator John Kerry of Massachusetts, whose East Coast liberalism was soundly ejected by Missouri voters in 2004, despite the best efforts of Soros, McCaskill, and other liberal and Democratic Party groups. Kerry’s PAC, Keeping America’s Promise Inc., collected over $63,000 for McCaskill’s committee.
- Total: Over $115,000, or fully 16.9% of McCaskill receipts out of $681,000 in the recent fundraising period
“It is clear that the most strident, liberal elements of the Democratic Party believe that Claire McCaskill is their kind of candidate,” Hancock said. “It will be more than difficult for her to appeal to mainstream Missourians while simultaneously courting the George Soros wing of the Democratic Party.”
