Inquiring Missourians Want to Know: Who is Jeff Harris?
July 7th, 2005
JEFFERSON CITY - It is possible that a few central Missouri residents are familiar with the extremist liberal record of the state House of Representative?s top Democrat and the higher tax, pro-abortion agenda he champions, but to most Missourians Jeff Harris is a question mark. A cartoon Charlie Brown type figure who can never quite seem to kick the football no matter how hard he tries.
To fill in the blanks for Missourians who want to know more about Harris and his devotion to the party of Howard Dean, The Missouri Republican Party is pleased to provide this overview on Rep. Harris?s career gathered from a survey he filled out on Project Vote Smart at www.vote-smart.org for interested Missourians who have been denied this full review of the highest ranking liberal in the state house by the media and a small list of questions for unbiased reporters who may be interested in hearing something from him besides incessant whining and boilerplate political rhetoric.
Prior to being elected to the House in 2002, Harris served in the administration of pro-abortion extremist Attorney General Jay ?Old Way? Nixon. In reviewing the information Harris provided Project Vote Smart, it is easy to deduce that Harris took on Old Way Jay?s love for higher taxes, bigger government and contempt for taxpayers long championed by the eternal general.
In the survey, Harris gleefully expressed his support for increasing taxes on job creators, continuing the death tax on working families and maintaining the status of income, property, sales and vehicle taxes. Harris, like former Gov. Bob Holden, supports raising fuel and sales taxes for roads, a move opposed by an overwhelming number of voters in 2002 because of years of broken promises by MODOT.
Harris has enjoyed the endorsements of militant left wing and counter culture organizations like NARAL and Planned Parenthood (who gave him a 100 percent voting record), the anti-family farm group the Sierra Club and PROMO, a group dedicated to imposing the lifestyles of gays, lesbians, and transsexuals into homes, offices and playgrounds throughout the state. Like Planned Parenthood, PROMO was so impressed with Harris? left-of-mainstream positions on issues of importance to them that they gave him a 100 percent voting record.
To assist the members of the ?Fourth Estate? who have been assigned to cover Harris? latest mindless, knee-jerk rant in opposition to the governor?s successful effort to deliver more money to Missouri schools thwarting Old Way Jay?s hopes to the contrary, the Missouri Republican Party hopes that every honest, unbiased reporter who is genuinely interested in covering both sides of the story without cutting and pasting information from Democratic party new releases will pepper Rep. Harris with these important questions:
- In the survey you cite your support for tax increases or maintenance of current taxes on gas, personal income, inheritance, property, sales and vehicles. Were you successful in getting all these taxes increased on working Missouri families? If not, will you propose increasing them all again? If so, by how much and how exactly will the money be spent?
- The Project Vote Smart says PROMO gave you a 100 percent rating and that you support ?civil unions? between same sex couples? What is your position on same sex marriages, which Missourians voted to ban last year? How did you vote and why? Do you think people who voted for the ban were wrong?
- Will the regressive tax increases you favor on cigarettes and beer REALLY address these problems? Do you believe that raising taxes is the answer to all of society?s ills?
- What did you say to Bob Holden when he was brutally withholding money from local classrooms? Are you suggesting that the state move back to the Holden system where money is promised, then withheld until locals are duped into passing tax increases?
- How do you intend to vote during the special session on the bill prohibiting the transport of minors into Illinois to obtain abortions? Are you concerned this will hurt your standing with Planned Parenthood and NARAL?
- Did you ever apply for an internship in the office of former Missouri Governor John Ashcroft?
