McCaskill Seeks to Become New York’s Third U.S. Senator
January 6th, 2005
JEFFERSON CITY – In an interview last month, Claire McCaskill told Missouri Net what she thought of national Democrat leaders: “Well, um, honestly I’m not sure I want them [party bigwigs] behind me to help me unseat Jim Talent. Frankly, there’s a lot of Democrats in Washington that I don’t agree with on much.”1 Less than a month later, McCaskill has reportedly changed her tune as evidenced by the disclosure in today’s New York Newsday that the liberal of all liberals Hillary Clinton is planning a McCaskill fundraising event—in New York City.2
“It is becoming increasingly clear that McCaskill is not vying to represent Missouri in the U.S. Senate,” said Missouri Republican Party spokesman John Hancock. “If elected, she would become the third U.S. Senator from New York. She is the handpicked choice of Chuck Schumer. She is the ideological twin of Hillary Clinton. And New York City is full of other ultraliberals like her donor George Soros who share McCaskill’s extreme left agenda that embraces gay marriage, abortion on demand, massive government and a weak foreign policy. Missouri does not provide her such comforts.”
In the same interview in which she feebly attempted to distance herself from national Democrats, McCaskill also said she had turned down requests from liberals like Clinton to come to Missouri and help her fledgling Senate campaign.
“McCaskill is too embarrassed to allow Hillary Clinton to support her in Missouri where her big government liberalism is not welcome. However, McCaskill is perfectly content standing side-by-side with Clinton in New York City,” said Hancock.
