Questions Claire McCaskill Must Answer for Voters

  1. A NEW DIRECTION? The St. Louis Post-Dispatch recently observed that you
?share the same positions on almost all of the issues.? On what issues do
you disagree with Governor Holden? Or is the difference only skin-deep?

  2. EDUCATION: Instead of cutting waste and unnecessary spending from state
government, Governor Holden withheld over $300 million from our schools to
balance the budget. You have said that you will never withhold money from
our schools ?just to prove a point,? but Matt Blunt has repeatedly pledged
that he will never withhold funds from our classrooms for any reason and
will cut waste and bureaucracy in state government instead. Will you join
Blunt in pledging never to withhold money from our classrooms for any reason
    at all?

  3. HEALTH CARE: At the behest of the trial bar, Governor Holden twice vetoed
reasonable tort reform bills designed to prevent the frivolous lawsuits that
drive up the cost of medical malpractice insurance, while still guaranteeing
that everyone has their day in court. You have stated you would also have
vetoed these bills. Do you have a plan to improve access to health care in
    Missouri?

  4. ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT: Missouri has lost thousands of jobs over the last four
years, and employers argue that reforming our workers? compensation laws
would help attract jobs to Missouri. But Governor Holden has consistently
opposed reforming the workers? compensation system. Where do you stand on
the issue of workers? compensation reform?

  5. TRANSPORTATION: Matt Blunt has pledged to restore public confidence in state
government by working to end the wrongful diversion of gas taxes to areas of
state government that have nothing to do with road-building. Considering the
fact that as State Auditor your office benefited from diverted gas tax
dollars and only refused diversion dollars once you decided to run for
governor, how can you be trusted to end the wrongful diversion of gas tax
    dollars?

  6. FUNDING FOR SCHOOLS: In one of your debates with Governor Holden you said
that because of your background as State Auditor you were in a unique
position ?to make sure that the dollars that are coming from the lottery and
gambling? go to our classrooms. But how can you be trusted to make good on
this promise as governor, when as a member of the state legislature you
twice voted against legislation designed to protect gambling dollars from
    being diverted from our classrooms?

  7. RIGHT TO CARRY: Governor Holden has pledged to veto any legislation the
legislature passes to fix the technical funding problems the state Supreme
Court found with the Right to Carry bill. You have said you and Governor
Holden share the same position on this issue. Will you also veto any ?fix?
    legislation?

  8. TAX CREDITS: In the primary you frequently cited your record as State
Auditor as evidence that you were prepared to be governor, but in Nov. 2003
the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported that the State of Missouri?s tax credit
program was ripe with fraud and abuse. How did you fail to uncover this
glaring example of waste in state government?

  9. RECORD OF ACCOMPLISHMENT: Matt Blunt has accomplished every major goal he
set for himself since he was elected Secretary of State in 2000. What
percentage of your audit proposals have been implemented since you became
    State Auditor in 1999?

  10. SAVING TAXPAYER DOLLARS: Matt Blunt has reduced the number of employees in
his office by 14% and his use of Missouri taxpayers dollars by 11% since he
took office in January 2001, while still offering outstanding customer
service. Since you took office as State Auditor in 1999 your budget has
grown by 5%. How can you be trusted to cut waste in state government when
you can?t even keep your own office?s budget under control?
