Holden Disenfranchises Military Voters

JEFFERSON CITY - Bob Holden?s politically motivated support for the Aug. 3
vote on the Sanctity of Marriage Amendment endangers thousands of military
personnel from having their votes counted.

Even though the military will expedite absentee ballots coming back to local
election officials, the Missouri National Guard said there likely won?t be
time for between 1,500 and 3,000 military ballots to be returned in time for
the Aug. 3 vote.

Bob Holden and fellow Democrat Jay Nixon went to court to have the same sex
marriage amendment placed on the August ballot instead of Nov. 2, ultimately
delaying the distribution of ballots.

"While our troops overseas are protecting our freedoms including the right
to vote, Bob Holden has made sure that those very same troops are in danger
of not having their votes counted on Aug. 3," said Paul Sloca,
communications director for the Missouri Republican Party. "The voices of
our brave soldiers are at risk of being muted by Bob Holden?s self-serving
political motivations. It is shameful."
