Which Bob Holden Will Show Up?
January 7th, 2004
JEFFERSON CITY _ The Missouri
Republican Party on Wednesday called on Gov. Bob Holden to work with the
Republican Legislature on ways to improve the lives of all
Missourians and resist focusing on politics and his own re-election bid.
On the opening day of the legislative session,
Republicans vowed to continue to building on the legislative successes of
2003. The Missouri Republican Party remains hopeful the governor?s
obstructionist approach taken a year ago will not be intensified by the
primary challenge he faces against State Auditor Claire McCaskill.
“We hope the governor will govern on behalf of all
people and not just the 6.5 percent of Missourians who will likely cast
ballots in the August Democratic primary,?? said Paul Sloca, communications
director for the Missouri Republican Party. “The budget, education and jobs
should be priorities for Bob Holden not political considerations.??
Holden twice vetoed portions of the state budget
last year while also spiking legislation allowing concealed guns and a
24-hour waiting period for women seeking abortions _ moves motivated by the
governor?s need to appease political allies.
“The well-being of Missourians is what should
motivate the governor because that?s what governing is all about,?? Sloca
said. “Republicans will continue to try and work with Bob Holden on real
issues not political grandstanding.??
