Matt Blunt Barnstorming Tour
January 9th, 2004
JEFFERSON CITY?Secretary of State Matt Blunt is prepared to conduct a
high-energy campaign for governor beginning on Wednesday, January 14 and to
bring his vision for the future to voters in every part of Missouri.
“Missourians will begin seeing the Blunt plan for our state in just a few
days. We know that excitement about his decision already is running strong,??
said Paul Sloca, communications director for the Missouri Republican Party. “By
bringing his case for the future immediately to 19 communities, in only four
days, Matt Blunt is providing the latest proof of his absolute commitment to
conduct the strongest possible campaign.??
Blunt has proven that he is a high achiever and a person who keeps promises.
When he ran, he offered clear objectives for government that is effective,
efficient, and innovative. He accomplished these goals in the secretary of
state?s office and he will bring the same focus to all of state government.
In addition to carrying out his plan effectively and professionally, he
achieved what has seemed to be out of reach for others in JEFFERSON CITY:
winning bipartisan agreement on major legislation, and enacting solutions to our
challenges. The Blunt plan to reform Missouri?s elections has been enacted, with
strong bipartisan majorities, and proved itself at the polls in 2002. Again with
strong bipartisan support, we enacted the Blunt legislation to update and
strengthen the law to prevent and punish investment frauds.
Blunt also brings political credentials to the campaign. Four years ago, he
was the only GOP candidate to win a statewide office, besting the then-Speaker
of the House. He was the only GOP candidate for state or federal office to carry
Missouri?s largest single voting jurisdiction, St. Louis County.
"As a native Missourian, a decorated military officer and a member of the
U.S. Navy Reserves, Blunt has the values and experience required to set goals,
define a plan, and carry out the mission,?? Sloca said. “ Matt and Melanie
Blunt will make this effort side by side, with shared respect and loyalty to the
established values and common sense that are Missouri?s greatest and most
lasting strength.??
