Volume 10, Edition 3 • December 15, 2006 Christmas MessageI would like to take this opportunity to thank you all for your hard work and commitment to the success of the Missouri Republican Party. As we look back on 2006, we have reasons to be optimistic heading into 2007. Despite a tough national political environment, Republicans still maintain strong majorities in the Legislature, which bodes well for the bold agenda that Gov. Matt Blunt is expected to unveil during his State of the State Address on January 24. The Governor has kept his campaign promises to Missourians on a variety of issues: litigation reform, workers’ compensation reform, stronger penalties for sexual predators, improvements in our transportation system, increased funding for our public schools and colleges and universities, and a balanced budget. Meanwhile, the Governor has kept his pledge not to raiser taxes on hard-working Missourians. In Congress, Missouri Republicans hold five of our state’s nine seats in the House of Representatives, while Kit Bond continues to fight for Missourians as our senior member in the U.S. Senate. Next year will be a busy one politically. Missouri’s presidential primary is set for February 5, 2008, meaning that the Show Me State will be again the focus of the nation as Republican candidates come here to share their vision for a stronger America. There is a lot to be excited about for Missouri Republicans as we put 2006 behind us and look forward to 2007 and beyond. On behalf of the Missouri Republican Party, I would like to wish each of you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. Sincerely, Jared Craighead Gov. Blunt Makes Case for Republican SuccessGov. Blunt makes a strong case that Republicans need to promote the party’s core ideals in order to create strong policy. Writing in “Human Events,” the Governor argues that Democrats used Republican issues in the most recent national elections and that Republicans must reclaim those issues in order to be successful in the future. The two key areas that the Governor says Republicans must continue to build on are fiscal responsibility and moral order. To read the entire article, click here. Governor, MoDOT Mark Milestone
Jay Nixon ExposedPoor Jay Nixon just can’t keep quiet, and the more he talks, the more the people of Missouri get a taste of his political ambition and his distaste for hard-working Missourians. In an act of unimaginable arrogance, Jay Nixon told Missourians and the media that his campaign finances are none of their business. Nixon won’t say whether or not he’s going to accept contributions during a two-day window in state law that allows statewide elected officials and members of the General Assembly to accept unlimited contributions immediately before session begins. Here’s what he told The St. Louis Post-Dispatch: "I don't talk to the press about my fundraising strategy." Incredible! Meanwhile, Nixon launched into an angry and politically motivated tirade over a proposed settlement between the state and Ameren over the Taum Sauk dam collapse then brazenly insulted state workers working in the best interests of Missourians. Nixon branded it “a wish list from bureaucrats.” Jay Nixon’s criticism of the proposed settlement is a bitter political response to his own failures and misdeeds, while his mean-spirited attack on state workers is nothing short of a disgrace. Then, just one day later, Nixon filed a politically motivated lawsuit against Ameren in a weak attempt to save face. As Missouri Republican Party Executive Director Jared Craighead explained: “Jay Nixon has literally played politics with the Taum Sauk dam collapse from day one. From the $19,000 in backdoor political contributions he received from Ameren to his tasteless attack yesterday on the Department of Natural Resources’ employees and their proposed settlement with Ameren, Jay Nixon has consistently put his own political ambitions ahead of the people of Missouri. This lawsuit is nothing more than an attempt to insulate him from criticism for extorting campaign cash from the ‘target’ of an investigation. Jay Nixon will not be able to effectively represent the state in court in the Ameren case given his abysmal litigation record on almost every issue and his conflict of interest in this case.” Media Calls Out Nixon on No-Call CharadeJay Nixon’s latest attempt to play politics with his official office was exposed in a hard-hitting editorial by the Springfield News-Leader. Under the headline “Nixon follows bad script on no-call changes,” the editorial makes it clear that Jay Nixon’s primary reason for pushing for changes in the no-call is politics.
