Given the opportunity to stand up for Missouri’s families and small businesses, Claire McCaskill once again sided with the Obama administration.

Several Democrats joined with Republicans like Sen. Kit Bond to protect Americans from unelected and unaccountable Washington bureaucrats who would unilaterally impose crushing new regulations that will act as a massive new energy tax on everyone who drives a car or flips on a light switch. But Claire McCaskill once again turned her back on Missourians.

McCaskill voted against a resolution sponsored by Sen. Lisa Murkowski, which would have prevented the EPA from imposing arcane regulations that amount to back-door taxes on every American.

“Given the opportunity to stand up for Missouri’s families and small businesses, Claire McCaskill once again sided with the Obama administration. This time, she voted to allow unelected Washington bureaucrats at the EPA to impose onerous regulations that will end up costing everyone who flips on a light switch more of their hard-earned dollars,” said Lloyd Smith, Executive Director of the Missouri Republican Party. “McCaskill’s vote was yet another example of ‘Chameleon Claire’ saying one thing in Missouri and doing another in Washington.”

Earlier this year, Republican and Democrat members of the Missouri General Assembly joined together to overwhelmingly pass HCR 46, a resolution calling on the “Environmental Protection Agency to rescind its formal endangerment finding on greenhouse gases.”

“Across the state, Republicans and Democrats know that the EPA cannot be trusted to wield such immense power,” said Smith. “But Claire McCaskill ignored Missouri’s bipartisan representatives, just as she ignored the families, small businesses, and farmers who are already struggling to make ends meet.”

Robin Carnahan can run from Barack Obama, but she can’t hide her wholehearted support for his liberal agenda.

Robin Carnahan can run from Barack Obama, but she can’t hide her wholehearted support for his liberal agenda. She may not stand on the platform next to President Obama in St. Louis on Wednesday, but Missourians will not soon forget that she stood with him on every major plank of the Obama-Pelosi-Reid platform—from the takeover of our health care system, to the job-killing cap-and-tax, to the failed stimulus bill, and more. As hard as she tries, Robin Carnahan cannot hide the fact that she would serve as another one of Barack Obama’s rubber stamps in the U.S. Senate.

Background:

Despite her absence from the event with President Obama in St Louis, Robin Carnahan cannot hide the fact that she has stood with Barack Obama for the past 6 years:

Carnahan donated money to his 2004 campaign for U.S. Senate (FEC Records)

Carnahan threw her “complete support” behind Obama’s presidential campaign in June 2008

AP, June 4, 2008: [Carnahan said] Obama has her “complete support” and will receive her vote as a super delegate at the Democratic National Convention.

Despite her absence from the event with President Obama in St Louis, Robin Carnahan cannot hide the fact that she would rubber stamp every major component of the Obama agenda:

Carnahan would rubber stamp the health care bill

Carnahan: “this legislation takes important steps…” (Carnahan statement, December 24, 2009)

Carnahan would rubber stamp the public option

St Louis Beacon, November 11, 2009: Robin Carnahan reaffirmed her support Wednesday for some sort of a public option when it comes to health-care coverage. “I’m less concerned about what we call it, than what it does,” said Carnahan during a brief interview

Carnahan would rubber stamp cap-and-tax

Columbia Missourian, July 21, 2009: Carnahan said she could “support some kind of cap-and-trade” energy policy

Carnahan would rubber stamp card-check

St Louis Beacon, April 21, 2009: “Robin is supportive” of the Employee Free Choice Act,” said campaign spokesman Tony Wyche.

Carnahan would rubber stamp the closure of Guantanamo Bay

Carnahan: “The Guantanamo Bay issue is one that we really need to get past. It has been used according to military experts, as a recruiting tool to get more terrorists to attack us, and so we need to do things that reflect our values. One of those is not to have these kind of off-shore prisons.” (Springfield News-Leader, February 7, 2010)

MOGOP’s Smith: “By remaining silent, Nixon is recklessly endangering the livelihoods of all Missourians.”

JEFFERSON CITY—Jay Nixon on Thursday shrugged off the destructive legislation being pushed by Congressional Democrats, declaring that he was not a “lobbyist for the state” and that it’s his job to simply “respond” to what Congress passes.

While at the State Fair, Nixon was asked if he would urge Congress to rethink cap-and-trade—a bill that would have a devastating effect on Missouri’s families, farmers, and businesses. But Nixon demurred, claiming that he would only react to federal legislation instead of attempting to influence it.

“Jay Nixon campaigned as someone willing to fight for our state, but now he claims that standing up for Missouri taxpayers is not in his job description. By remaining silent as Washington pushes costly big-government programs, Nixon is recklessly endangering the livelihoods of all Missourians,” said Lloyd Smith, Executive Director of the Missouri Republican Party. “Governors of both parties from across the country are protesting Barack Obama’s experiment with our health care and his job-killing cap-and-trade bill, but Nixon has abandoned the state and its citizens.”

According to audio of Nixon’s news conference posted by Missourinet, Nixon claimed, “I’m not the lobbyist for the state, I’m the Governor of the state. And the people here – thousands of people here – will have their chance to talk directly to those Members of Congress and we’ll respond accordingly to what they pass.” He also claimed “What Congress does, Congress does.”
