One week later: Is Jay Nixon finished “reviewing” Obamacare ruling?
July 5, 2012
Since last Thursday, elected officials across the state made known their opinions about the Supreme Court’s Obamacare ruling—but not Jay Nixon. Instead, Nixon released a milquetoast, 3 sentence statement noting that he was “review[ing] the ruling” so the state can “move forward in a way that works best for families in our state.”
It’s been a full week, yet Nixon still refuses to say anything of substance about the ruling, his opinion on the decision, or whether he supports his party’s effort to greatly expand Medicaid.
We are now past the point where Nixon’s silence begins to look like cowardice—but he can’t hide forever.
“Jay Nixon has had plenty of time to review the Supreme Court’s Obamacare decision; one week of silence is long enough,” said Lloyd Smith, Executive Director of the Missouri Republican Party. “As governor, Nixon has an obligation to explain to the citizens how he plans to move forward on important issues like whether he plans to comply with the Obama administration’s budget-busting effort to expand Medicaid. Anything less begs the question: what is Jay Nixon hiding?”
