NEW VIDEO: Robin Carnahan’s ‘Bull’ Tour Continues

The Missouri Republican Party released a web video today in response to Robin Carnahan’s bull tour.  The video, entitled “Robin Carnahan: The Bull Continues,” highlights several examples of her latest hypocrisy on ethics issues.

“Robin Carnahan is piling up the ‘bull’ in an attempt to obscure her own dismal record,” said Lloyd Smith, Executive Director of the Missouri Republican Party.  “Carnahan’s hypocrisy ranging from lobbyists to leadership PACs, and backroom deals should have sent the bull-o-meter through the roof.”

A few examples of Robin Carnahan’s “bull:”

CARNAHAN CLAIM: Stop the lobbyist revolving door.
FACT: Robin Carnahan knows something about the lobbyist revolving door.  Two of Robin Carnahan’s brothers were lobbyists in Missouri when her father was governor. (Source: Missouri Ethics Commission)

CARNAHAN CLAIM: Prohibit lobbyist war rooms/Publish details of meetings online.
FACT: Robin Carnahan opened her office and staff to radical special interest group ACORN and worked with a host of liberal lobbying groups to defeat photo ID. The only reason any of this is public is because the Missouri Republican Party released thousands of documents showing that Carnahan gave ACORN special access to her office. CARNAHAN CLAIM: Abolish leadership PACs.
FACT: According to OpenSecrets.org, Carnahan has accepted more than $260,000 from leadership PAC, including Harry Reid’s Searchlight Leadership Fund and Claire McCaskill’s PAC, Missourians for Accountability and Change.  Also, from 2001-2009, Robin’s mother operated the Jean A. Carnahan Political Action Committee. (Source: Opensecrets.org)

CARNAHAN CLAIM: Prohibit back room deal making (special provisions targeting specific interests).
FACT: Robin Carnahan supported the pork-laden stimulus bill and the health care bill, which were passed because of Democrats’ back room deals and arm twisting.

CARNAHAN CLAIM: Post text of bills online 72 hours before vote.
FACT: Carnahan supported health care bill and stimulus, among others, which were not transparent.  In fact, Nancy Pelosi famously proclaimed that “We have to pass the bill so you can find out what is in it.”

CARNAHAN CLAIM: Strengthen ethics enforcement.
FACT: Robin Carnahan would be faced with a serious conflict of interest from day one because of her brother Tom’s lobbying efforts on behalf of the wind industry. We already know she supported the stimulus, which included wind industry tax incentives that Tom previously called “vitally important to the wind industry.” (Source: St. Joseph News-Press, January 25, 2008)
