‘Chameleon Claire’ puts unelected Washington bureaucrats over Missourians

June 11, 2010

Several Democrats joined with Republicans like Sen. Kit Bond to protect Americans from unelected and unaccountable Washington bureaucrats who would unilaterally impose crushing new regulations that will act as a massive new energy tax on everyone who drives a car or flips on a light switch. But Claire McCaskill once again turned her back on Missourians.

McCaskill voted against a resolution sponsored by Sen. Lisa Murkowski, which would have prevented the EPA from imposing arcane regulations that amount to back-door taxes on every American.

“Given the opportunity to stand up for Missouri’s families and small businesses, Claire McCaskill once again sided with the Obama administration.  This time, she voted to allow unelected Washington bureaucrats at the EPA to impose onerous regulations that will end up costing everyone who flips on a light switch more of their hard-earned dollars,” said Lloyd Smith, Executive Director of the Missouri Republican Party. “McCaskill’s vote was yet another example of ‘Chameleon Claire’ saying one thing in Missouri and doing another in Washington.”

Earlier this year, Republican and Democrat members of the Missouri General Assembly joined together to overwhelmingly pass HCR 46, a resolution calling on the “Environmental Protection Agency to rescind its formal endangerment finding on greenhouse gases.”

“Across the state, Republicans and Democrats know that the EPA cannot be trusted to wield such immense power,” said Smith. “But Claire McCaskill ignored Missouri’s bipartisan representatives, just as she ignored the families, small businesses, and farmers who are already struggling to make ends meet.”
