ACORN rises to Robin Carnahan’s defense

October 22, 2009

JEFFERSON CITY—Lloyd Smith, Executive Director of the Missouri Republican Party, released the following statement regarding ACORN’s defense of Robin Carnahan:

“Glenn Burleigh, ACORN’s head organizer, today defended the group’s cozy relationship with Robin Carnahan—a relationship Carnahan claimed yesterday did not even exist.  Declaring that Carnahan’s ties to the liberal group were ‘mandated,’ ACORN’s statement makes it clear that they feel entitled to special access to Carnahan’s office.  This attitude could only have been created by the five years worth of Carnahan’s open-door policies detailed in the email communications obtained by the Missouri GOP.

“No group has done more than ACORN to erode the credibility of Missouri’s election system, so once again, we call on Robin Carnahan to immediately cut all her ties to the embattled organization.”
According to the Post-Dispatch, 10/22/2009: Glenn Burleigh, the head organizer of the St. Louis ACORN group, said the GOP is off base on its criticism of Carnahan over her communication with his group: “If she had not been in communications with a group involved in a major voters’ rights case, then she would have been in dereliction of duty as Secretary of State,” Burleigh says. “If the GOP would prefer that she just not do her job, that’s one thing, but she was performing mandated duties of her office, which I’m sure most Missouri voters would appreciate.”
