Barack Obama and Robin Carnahan Celebrate First 200 Days of One-Party Control of the Federal Government
August 6, 2009
JEFFERSON CITY—Today marks Barack Obama’s first 200 days in office—and 200 days of one-party rule by an out-of-control Democratic majority. Robin Carnahan has made it clear that she would like join Washington’s taxing, borrowing, and spending extravaganza—a risk too great for the people of Missouri.
“Robin Carnahan has given us no reason to believe that she could stand up to Barack Obama or the national Democrats,” said Lloyd Smith, Executive Director of the Missouri Republican Party. “Carnahan will toe the party line and be a rubberstamp for the radical Obama-Pelosi agenda.”
Sending Robin Carnahan to Washington would bolster the already-reckless Democrat majority, which, over the past 200 days, has rammed through Congress a $787 billion so-called “stimulus” package, a government-takeover of the auto industry, a massive new national energy tax, and proposing a $1 trillion health care proposal that would put Washington bureaucrats in charge of our medical decisions. On their watch, we have seen an exploding national debt, wasteful borrowing and spending, and unprecedented government intrusion into the private sector.
Robin Carnahan stands shoulder-to-shoulder with Barack Obama on the most radical elements of his agenda:
- Carnahan told KY3 that she was open to a so-called “public option” for health care—a proposal that would raise costs, ration care, limit access and force every American into the same government-run plan.
- Carnahan attempted to cover up her support for a massive new national energy tax and refused to condemn those groups running false attack ads on the issue meant to benefit her campaign.
- Carnahan publicly dodged questions on card-check, later admitting that she would vote to revoke a worker’s right to a secret ballot in union elections.
- Carnahan expressed support for the $787 billion “stimulus” package, which has failed to spur the economy or reduce unemployment.
