Robin Carnahan's Cowardly Campaign Continues

August 10, 2009

MOGOP’s Smith: On health care, Carnahan “doesn’t care what Missourians think”

Jefferson City—Seven months after announcing her intention to run for U.S. Senate, Robin Carnahan has refused to hold campaign forums or news conferences—an obvious attempt to conceal her liberal views from the citizens of Missouri. Carnahan’s seclusion is especially apparent as the national focus turns to Barack Obama’s health care experiment. A majority of Americans have serious reservations about major components of the Democrats’ bill, but Carnahan has said nothing more than one vague remark.

“Robin Carnahan is afraid that Missourians will find out she is just another Nancy Pelosi Democrat who supports a government-takeover of health care and other radical experiments with our economy,” said Lloyd Smith, Executive Director of the Missouri Republican Party. “Instead, Robin Carnahan is hiding from the health care debate and allowing others like her brother to take the heat from Missourians upset about the encroachment of an overbearing government into their lives.”

Carnahan has only suggested that she is “open” to government-run health care and a huge tax hike to pay for it, according to KY3. But Carnahan is only following instructions from her Washington allies, so she has refused to speak in detail with voters on this (or any other) topic.

“Robin Carnahan’s belief that people will support her without knowing her positions on the most important issues is an insult to Missourians,” Smith said. “The Democrats’ proposed government takeover of health care is one of the most controversial domestic policy issues of our time, and it has ignited fervent debate and passionate discussion—but Robin Carnahan can barely muster a yawn. In the end, Carnahan will do whatever top Democrats and her liberal allies tell her to do. She doesn’t need public meetings, because she doesn’t care what Missourians think.”
