Carnahan’s mismanagement of Missouri elections gets national attention

June 1, 2009

This morning, Secretary of State Robin Carnahan’s mismanagement of Missouri elections was briefly thrust into the national spotlight. A highly regarded lawyer and elections expert described raised questions about a case involving the state’s chief elections officer.

Appearing on the FOX News, the Heritage Foundation’s Hans von Spakovsky discussed the possible political motivations behind the Obama Administration’s dismissal of its case against the Black Panthers who blocked access to a polling location in Pennsylvania.

Asked if there were other examples of cases that had potentially been politicized by Obama’s Department of Justice, von Spakovsky cited the federal lawsuit against Robin Carnahan for mismanagement of the state’s voter rolls. Despite finding success at the 8th District Court of Appeals, the DoJ dropped the case in the beginning of March—one month after Carnahan announced her intention to run for Senate.

The clip:

Von Spakovsky raises interesting questions: Did Robin Carnahan call in a favor to the Obama Administration to avoid a potentially embarrassing court decision affirming her election mismanagement during the heat of a campaign? Has the Obama Administration been perverting the rule of law to benefit political allies such as the Black Panthers and Robin Carnahan?

At the end of the clip, the host vowed to investigate the allegations. We know that there is much more to the story of Carnahan’s election mismanagement than a single federal investigation—specifically her attempt to whitewash the existence of voter fraud in Missouri—so FOX will have plenty of material to work with.
