Kinder salutes Jack Kemp
May 6, 2009
On May 2, former football star, Congressman, Cabinet Secretary, and Vice Presidential nominee Jack Kemp lost his battle with cancer—and America lost a statesman. From the Oval Office to the Senate floor and from America’s inner cities to our small towns, Kemp’s accomplished life was celebrated for the dramatic impact it had on so many people.
Lt. Governor Peter Kinder penned a tribute to Kemp:
It can be difficult to describe to younger Republicans and conservatives what the rise of Jack French Kemp meant to us all back in the 1970s. Into the dark malaise of the ghastly decade that was the ‘70s came the starburst of Kemp. Offering a tribute in National Review Online, Rick Brookhiser said: Reagan was sunny; Kemp was a perpetual solar flare.
