St Louis voter fraud allegations raise more questions about Carnahan’s job performance

May 21, 2009

vacantprop1Yesterday, the St. Louis City Election Board turned over to authorities evidence of what it calls “significant election fraud.” Their announcement makes it clear that voter fraud does exist in Missouri, contrary to Secretary of State Robin Carnahan’s April report in which she claimed that the state’s elections were “fair and free of fraud.”

According to evidence compiled by the election board, fifty voters committed some act of fraud—from voting at a vacant lot to voting twice in separate jurisdictions—which carry strict penalties.

“Thanks to the diligence of the local election authorities, fifty cases of fraud were uncovered in the city of St. Louis. How many additional cases are lurking in Missouri’s other 114 counties?” asked Lloyd Smith, Executive Director of the Missouri Republican Party. “Regardless of how many official reports Robin Carnahan issues to cover up the problem, voter fraud exists on her watch. She is responsible for overseeing clean elections, but she has failed to do so. By whitewashing the problem, Carnahan has done a grave disservice to voters and weakened the integrity of Missouri’s electoral system.”

The Election Board also announced that earlier this week, an individual plead guilty to elections offences for providing false registration information at the urging of ACORN. Combined with several other examples of fraud committed by the group over the past four years, this conviction raises questions about whether any of the voters identified by St. Louis election officials were part of ACORN’s ongoing attempt to commit election fraud in the state of Missouri.
