10 Questions for Robin Carnahan

April 24, 2009

JEFFERSON CITY — On the eve of Robin Carnahan’s first visit to Southwest Missouri, the Missouri Republican Party is releasing a list of questions that an enterprising reporter may want to ask.  Carnahan has left so many questions unanswered that it was difficult to limit ourselves to ten, but these are just a few that any aspiring candidate should discuss openly and honestly.

  1. This is your first trip to Springfield since you announced online.  When will you meet with ordinary voters in Southwest Missouri—people who didn’t pay to watch you speak at a partisan event?
  2. The League of Conservation Voters is airing a statewide attack ad opposing Roy Blunt’s position against the cap-and-trade energy tax scheme.  Do you condemn this ad?  What is your position on the harmful cap-and-trade energy tax?
  3. You dodged several questions from the Kansas City Star about the secret ballot and allow a union boss to claim you don’t have a position on the issue.  Your spokesman later admitted that you would vote to take away a worker’s fundamental right to the secret ballot in union elections.  Why did you hide your position for so long?
  4. Do you believe that the Missouri House should be allowed to use the so-called “stimulus” money for tax relief?
  5. You recently attended a pro-abortion fundraiser in Manhattan and received substantial campaign contributions from pro-abortion groups like Emily’s List. What is your position on these groups’ No. 1 priority, the so-called Freedom of Choice Act (FOCA), which would eliminate Missouri’s strong pro-life laws?
  6. Why are you unapologetic about your ultimately unsuccessful campaign against the right of law abiding citizens to carry firearms to defend themselves and their families?
  7. Your brother is a prominent wind energy developer who is heavily dependent on federal subsidies for his business’ survival.  Would this conflict-of-interest prevent you from voting on any energy legislation that affects the wind industry?
  8. Is there a major issue on which you differ from Senator Claire McCaskill?
  9. Do you agree with Claire McCaskill, who dismissively described heartland, non-urban Missouri as “Ashcroftland.”
  10. Do you support the decision to close Guantanamo Bay without a plan to relocate the terrorist detainees?  Do you agree with Attorney General Eric Holder’s position that some terrorist detainees may be release in the United States?
